Burberry Goes Bold with its Newest Trench Coat

Let’s not beat around the bush, the Burberry trench coat is a true British classic. What is interesting is its evolution from being a coat worn by the British Army in 1895 fighting in the Boer War to a staple in the wardrobes of style-conscious people around the world. With slight tweaks of the cut and the subtlest design changes, Burberry have managed to keep an iconic coat modern and always sought after. Classic items of clothing can last a lifetime and simple style is never out of fashion. A quick scour of eBay reflects the lasting longevity of the Burberry trench coat. Burberry trench coats that are even older than generation X still retain their value well and are always in demand.
The latest incarnation of Burberry’s trench coat is the oversize college stripe trench coat. Constructed from Burberry’s signature cotton gabardine - a fabric actually created by Thomas Burberry himself, the trench coat incorporates large lapels and double buttons all the way down the centre. The most distinctive detail of this reinterpreted classic is the brown and orange wool stripes that encompass the bottom quarter of the trench coat. The warm autumnal colours bring a degree of boldness to a classically conservative coat.
With London’s reputation for a bit of rain, at Opumo we do enjoy having a sturdy trench coat in the winter wardrobe. Readers, are you partial to a Burberry trench or do you have another classic that you like to rely on?
